ABOUT

At 26 years old, South Carolina artist Chief Mellow is not new to this in the slightest and in fact has been in the game for more than five years. With an eclectic sound bringing energy and passion to his art form he’s drawing in people from all over the world. Along with plotting for his own solo career, Mellow also runs his own label 187BLVD getting more artists onto shows and showcasing the brand he’s been building all this time. As Mellow enters the next chapter of his career, the South Carolina artist is upping his game and ready to show the universe what’s coming. Mellow was immersed in the music as an art form from the jump, “My parents always played 90s R&B and rap, MTV and BET kept me up to date with the newest music,” he recalls. One of the first CDs he listened to was Eminem’s “The Marshall Mathers LP”, the first CD he bought with his own money? Young Jeezy’s “TM101”. “The album that really inspired me to rap...was Lupe Fiasco’s “The Cool” Mellow says. From there the rest is history, Chief Mellow continued to sharpen his pen and began recording music in high school. That said, Mellow didn’t want to pursue a career in music until he had his ducks in a row and an artist name picked out.

“I came up with my artist name as Chief Mellow because I felt like a boss with a chill and stoner vibe,” he says. Mellow brings this and more to every track you press play on, you can hear the influence his parents has on his music, you can hear all the music he played growing up have an impact on what he’s creating. His debut single “WDTBW” signals the massive amount of talent Mellow brings to the table along with a rebrand. Even before making this a career Mellow wanted to make sure he was taking the next best steps and that’s what this rebrand is all about. “It was time to make sure everything is legit, from the recording process, all the way through to the rollout and release process and promotion.” Mellow explains. “WDTBW” showcases Mellow’s ability to ride over thumping blunted production with his commanding yet cold delivery and flow. This hard work and focus Mellow has put into this rebrand has paid off as the aforementioned single has garnered over 25K streams in under four months of time. Mellow’s just getting started.

Chief Mellow spent the last year recording music in LA and focusing on the rebrand he’s going through now. Earlier in August, Mellow released his sophomore single in “ASAP” a shorter cut, giving the South Carolina artist a compact space to get his thoughts out. Moreover, every track Mellow releases is planned to have visuals, with music videos already out for both of Mellow’s singles already. As we head into the 4th Quarter of the year, Mellow is going to release his debut project, an EP called “Dark Tournament'' a collaboration with J $tyles and produced entirely by BLVCKAMETHYST. “I feel like $tyles is one of the best lyricists I know so his flows combined with my flows ...makes a crazy energy, I can’t wait for our fans to hear it.” Mellow says.
